Ireland lockdown: Schools to remain open, hairdressers, barbers to shut on Christmas Eve, wedding numbers cut again

Schools will remain open under Ireland's third lockdown, the Irish Mirror can reveal.

Meanwhile, hairdressers, barbers and salons will again be forced to close their doors on Christmas Eve.

And the number allowed to attend weddings will be cut to just six people from January 2nd.

The new restrictions will be reviewed again on January 12th.

Meanwhile, the ban on inter-county travel is set to return at midnight on St Stephen's Day, while household visits are expected to be reduced to one other home from December 27.

Under the new travel rules, people can return to their home county on December 26, with the ban on travel then coming back into force.

Meanwhile, pubs and restaurants are set to shut at 3pm on Christmas Eve, Cabinet has agreed.

Later today, the National Public Health Emergency Team will announce case numbers above 900, according to sources.

The Government met at 8am on Tuesday morning to discuss the Level Five recommendation from NPHET.

Dr Tony Holohan requested a full-scale lockdown to halt the spread of Covid-19, which has seen cases spiral in recent weeks.
