Ireland lockdown: Government's list of seven key rules and one big change later this week

The final changes to Ireland's January lockdown come into effect later this week.

The biggest switch will be households visitors being cut from one other household to zero as of January 1.

There is of course some exceptions, the advice states: "No visitors are permitted in private homes/gardens (except for essential family reasons such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, or as part of a support bubble)."

Travel outside your county is banned as of midnight December 26 and that doesn't change on January 1.

People are still permitted to make their one journey home from wherever they spent Christmas however.

The only other big change in January from what already came into effect on St Stephen's Day is wedding numbers.

Those getting married up until January 2 can have 25 guests - from January 3 that number falls to just six.

Restaurants and wet pubs will remain closed except for take-away and delivery while hotels can still only serve guests.

Places of worship will again be online only as has been the case for much of the year.

And retail will be allowed stay open although no January sales are permitted.
