Ireland lockdown: Fourth wave fears with concern at amount of cases in Dublin

There will be no significant easing of lockdown restrictions announced next week as concerns rise over the number of COVID-19 cases in Dublin.

Cabinet is set to meet on Tuesday to discuss when restrictions will be eased but there are fresh worries of a fourth waver of the virus with the R number now around 1.3.

Minimal lifting of restrictions will be confirmed next week, including the raising of the 5km limit.

Children are also likely to be allowed return to outdoor sport while two households will be allowed to meet outdoors, reports the Sunday World.

Sports such as golf and tennis will also return and click and collect services are also likely to be given the nod to return.

And there is fresh doubt whether the construction industry will be allowed to return to work.

Junior Housing Minster Peter Burke said: "It is a priority to get residential construction open in a safe manner to ensure supply of new homes increases. However, it's dependent on public heath data and advice.

"I also believe it's critical that we signal to the commercial sector an indicative date pending key public health metrics going the right way for reopening to provide certainty for the sector."
