Ireland lockdown easing: RDS and Tallaght Stadium to host test events that will see return of fans

You know we're getting to the end of the lockdown when sports attendances are on the agenda.

There are a number of test events in the works, including concerts, matches and races that are to be trialled throughout June and July.

Attendances at a whole host of sports including GAA, rugby, soccer and horse racing will be back on the cards as we progress through the summer months.

Many of the planned test events will take place in Dublin over the coming weeks.

Here's a rundown what games fans will be allowed to return to:

Rugby

There is one home Rainbow Cup/Guinness Pro 16 match taking place in June that will have a small number of spectators.

Leinster v Dragons on June 11 in the RDS will be the first to have fans in attendance.

In July, Ireland plays host to Japan and the USA on July 3 and 10, respectively and there could be fans in attendance at the Aviva for these matches.

Horse Racing

At the end of June, the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Derby Festival at the Curragh will take place with some spectators allowed to be in attendance.

The Curragh will welcome fans back in June for the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Derby Festival (INPHO/Morgan Treacy)

GAA

On June 20, the Liberty Insurance Camogie League final will have supporters in attendance at Croke Park.

RTE is also reporting that up to 25,000 could be allowed for the All Ireland finals in August and 10,000 for the Leinster Hurling final.

Football

League of Ireland fans looks set to return on June 11, starting with Shamrock Rovers against Finn Harps at Tallaght Stadium.

Cork City v Cabinteely also looks set to welcome the return of a small crowd the same day.
