Ireland keeper Mark Travers the hero as Bournemouth needs penalties to beat Forest Green

Ireland keeper Mark Travers was the hero for Bournemouth in a penalty shootout win over Forest Green in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Travers saved all three of the League Two side's penalties to spare Eddie Howe's Premier League outfit from a shock result.

The 20-year-old, who was recently called up Mick McCarthy's squad for European Qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar, was named in a starting lineup that included Dubliner Gavin Kilkenny, 19, who made his first start for Bournemouth.

Kilkenny was also included today in Stephen Kenny's Under-21 squad for upcoming UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Armenia and Sweden.

Forest Green frustrated the teenager's Premier League team for large periods though and had chances to win the game before it went to a penalty shootout.

Travers' heroics were the difference in the end to send Bournemouth through to the third round where they will take on Burton.
