Ireland keeper Mark Travers joins Swindon Town on loan from Bournemouth

Ireland goalkeeper Mark Travers has joined Swindon Town on loan for the rest of the season.

Along with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, the Maynooth man is back-up to Darren Randolph in the senior international team.

But capped twice, he has been hampered by just two first-team appearances for Bournemouth all season.

Swindon, who are managed by former Waterford boss and Ireland international John Sheridan, were in the market for emergency cover.

That was after Manchester United this week recalled Matej Kovar, who made 21 appearances for the Robins since joining in August.

Travers, 21, who has eight first-team appearances for the Cherries, is itching to play to enhance his World Cup qualifying claims later this year.

Swindon are second from bottom of League One, two points from safety going into the second-half of the season.

Travers, who made two Premier League appearances for Bournemouth last season, will fight it out with Joe Fryer for the gloves.
