Ireland jobs: An Garda Siochana seeks new members as they launch recruitment campaign

An Garda Siochana is set to launch a new recruitment campaign as they strive to meet a 15,000 member target.

The service is rolling out a new promotional campaign entitled "It's A Job Worth Doing" to encourage people to consider a career with the Gardai. The recruitment drive is also targeting Irish people living abroad in countries such as Canada, the US and Australia.

The campaign will shed light on the realities of working as a Garda in Ireland. It is based on insights from working Gardai and features case studies of how the national police force has helped local communities.

Garda Commissioner Harris said: "We want to make the challenges of the job clear to people right up front so that we attract high quality candidates who will thrive in a career as a Garda. I'm confident that there are many people out there who have the skills and attitudes to make excellent Guards, and this is a great opportunity to join us and make a real difference."

An Garda Siochana are hoping to recruit even more members beyond a 15,000 target set by the government. There were 14,539 registered Gardai at the end of 2022.

Commissioner Harris also acknowledged that the service needed to "do more" in terms of diversity. He called on people from all backgrounds and communities to send in their applications.

The competition is being run by the Public Appointments Service on behalf of An Garda Siochana. The submission process begins this Friday on Public Jobs and candidates have until 3pm on April 14 to apply.
