Ireland's Darron Gibson's career has been dealt another blow after Wigan Athletic announced today that his contract will not be renewed.
The midfielder's deal expires this summer after joining the Championship side last August, making 15 appearances this season as they avoided relegation to League One.
The news comes after the 31-year-old left Sunderland by mutual consent last March after he was charged with drink driving.
As well as Sunderland, Gibson has represented Everton and Manchester United since making his senior debut in 2006 - winning 27 caps in green with the Republic of Ireland.
Gibson's last appearance for the Boys in Green came in 2016 in a 2-1 defeat to Belarus at Turner's Cross in Ireland's final warm-up game for Euro 2016 - he did not make Ireland's final squad for the tournament.
