Ireland hot weather: Met Eireann forecast 10-day sunshine blitz with temperatures rising by the day

Ireland is set to enjoy an early taste of summer weather in the coming days as clouds clear and temperatures soar.

Met Eireann says a high-pressure system will propel the mercury to almost 20C tomorrow and thermometers will “keep increasing through the week”.

Its latest forecast says that fine, dry and settled conditions will last for at least 10 days, with “highest temperatures in the high teens to low 20s”.

A forecaster said: “High pressure will continue to dominate our weather, bringing mostly settled conditions with a good deal of dry weather. Temperatures increasing through the week.”

While there will be the odd spot of light rain or drizzle at times, the overall weather will be predominately dry with sunny spells.

Giving a day by day breakdown, the national forecaster said: “A dry day for most Tuesday. After a cloudy start over the northern half of the country, spells of sunshine will become widespread through the morning and afternoon. A few light showers are possible in Ulster. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C in light to moderate northwest winds.

“Dry countrywide Wednesday with hazy sunshine at first. Cloud will build over the northern half of the country through the morning and afternoon, with the odd spot of light rain or drizzle possible, most likely in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C generally, a little cooler in parts of the northwest, in light to moderate southwest to west winds.

“Dry with some sunny spells at first Thursday. Cloud will build from the west through the morning with some patchy light rain or drizzle following. Remaining drier and sunnier in the east and southeast. Later in the afternoon, the cloud will begin to break up with long spells of evening sunshine developing. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C generally in mostly light southwest to west breezes.”

This weekend could be the most stunning one of the year so far.

Met Eireann continued: “Predominately dry Friday with long spells of hazy sunshine. Highest temperatures of 16C to 20C in light breezes.

“Current indications for this weekend suggest that high pressure will remain in charge generating a good deal of dry weather with sunny spells and mostly light breezes. Highest temperatures in the high teens to low twenties.”

The warm weather is set to continue into the following week, however it will turn more changeable.

Its long-range forecast for the week of May 22 to May 28 reads: “For this period, the weather looks to be a bit more changeable with average rainfall amounts over Leinster and the Midlands. The west and north, however, will still be drier than normal. This suggests easterly breezes at times. Temperatures will be a little warmer overall for the time of year.”
