Ireland now has the highest daily vaccination levels across the EU, fresh data has shown.
We’ve placed first in the European Union rankings for the number of daily Covid-19 doses administered per 100,000 of the population.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly thanked the vaccinations teams who have helped to get Ireland to the top spot.
He tweeted: “Thanks to our brilliant vaccination teams, for now we have the highest daily vaccination levels in the EU27.
“It won’t always be like this, as member States get same per capita amounts of vaccine.
“But great we’re moving quickly.”
Meanwhile, the Head of the Covid-19 National Vaccine Taskforce Brian McCraith has said he received relieving news from Pfizer that the proposed reduction in supplies of the jab will only apply for one week.
Pfizer had said in a statement yesterday that in order to ramp up production of the jab to deliver more doses that forecasted this year, it would temporarily impact the delivery of jabs across the EU.
Speaking to RTE, Prof McCraith said: “After a stressful day, it has been very relieving news to hear from Pfizer this evening that the proposed reduction will only apply to one week and that is this coming week.
“There is additional good news that from 15 February onwards, there will be significant growth in the supplies coming in.”
