Ireland fans unimpressed with Finland defeat in Nations League

Stephen Kenny's first home match in charge of the Republic of Ireland ended in a 1-0 defeat to Finland this evening.

And Irish fans were not impressed with the team's attacking performance in the Nations League match at the Aviva.

Finland enjoyed the best of a goalless first half that saw the best chance fall to Norwich striker Teemu Pukki who forced a point blank save from Darren Randolph.

Ireland seemed to be edging their way into the game in the second half though when Robert Taylor pulled the ball across the box for Fredrik Jensen to tap it home after only just coming on a subsitute.

As the home side pushed for an equaliser, they left themselves vulnerable at the back and it was Finland who could have extended their lead in the closing stages.

Ireland were nearly again saved by Shane Duffy but this time his header from a late corner drifted over the crossbar.

It was a performance, particularly going forward, that did not sit very well with many Ireland fans:

Kenny will now have to regroup his troops ahead of their Euro 2020 playoff against Slovakia next month.
