Ireland fans relive Euro 2016 memories with RTE's Two Shades of Green documentary

Ireland fans have had the chance to relive some of their fond memories from Euro 2016 in RTE's Two Shades of Green documentary looking back at the tournament.

The doc focused on the efforts of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland teams and fans at the tournament - and went down a treat on social media.

Ireland qualified for the last 16 in dramatic fashion with Robbie Brady's header against Italy and the emotional scenes it sparked among Irish supporters.

Martin O'Neill's men pushed tournament hosts and eventual finalists France all the way - taking the lead with a penalty from Robbie Brady before two goals from Antoine Griezmann sent Ireland home.

Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland also got through their group before being knocked out by Wales in the last 16.

Fans enjoyed the trip down memory lane, with one commenting: "Thanks @RTE2 for allowing us this afternoon to relive one of our favourite “we were there” moments plus our entire two weeks following the boys in green around France for Euro 2016."

Colm Hand said: Great little look back on #EURO2016 on @rte! Flew from Dallas for an incredible week in France. Roll on #EURO2020(1) #twoshadesofgreen."

Trevor Spillane tweeted: "Serious flashback to #Euro2016 on ⁦@RTE2⁩ - great memories of a great summer (shame about that bloody result in Bordeaux!)"

Adam Kiernan joked: "Bad idea to watch this hungover. Nostalgia overdrive #twoshadesofgreen #rte"

Fans will have to wait until the summer of 2021 before the next instalment of the European Championships due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ireland are set to take on Slovakia in a semi-final qualification play-off in October.
