Ireland fans joking about name of Finnish player Daniel O'Shaughnessy during Nations League match

In a subdued opening half at the Aviva, Ireland fans were more occupied with one of the Finnish players in the Nations League match.

You could be forgiven for immediately thinking Daniel O'Shaughnessy was playing in the wrong shirt when you saw the team sheet for this evening's international clash.

But O'Shaughnessy, 25, has in fact being playing for Finland, where he was born, from the underage ranks right up the senior national team.

There is an Irish connection though with O'Shaughnessy's father hailing from Galway, while his mother is from Finland.

On social media, people were confused by the defender's name, although his brother Patrick O'Shaughnessy, also a professional footballer, may have made things even more confusing.

On the pitch, Finland created the better chances in a first half that ended goalless.

The best chance of the match fell to Norwich striker Teemu Pukki who was put clean through but saw his shot smartly saved by the feet of Darren Randolph.
