Ireland fans fearing the worst as Azerbaijan take half-time lead

Ireland fans are fearing the worst as a superb goal from Emin Mahmudov has given Azerbaijan a 1-0 half-time lead at the Aviva.

With no points to their name from three World Cup qualifiers, Ireland are in dire need of a win against a pointless Azerbaijan.

Stephen Kenny's side, fresh off a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Portugal on Wednesday, made a bright start to the match.

Adam Idah went close before Jayson Molumby's left footed effort from the edge of the box went just wide of the far post.

But the away side grew into the game and their dangerman Mahmudov was given time on the ball just before half-time.

And Mahmudov decided to let fly from 30 yards and his thunderous shot flew past Gavin Bazunu.
