Ireland duo extend loans with Championship clubs until the end of the season

Josh Cullen and Scott Hogan have both extended their loan spells with their Championship clubs until the end of the season.

Cullen joined Charlton in 2018 from parent club West Ham, and has made 25 appearances for Lee Bowyer’s side this season.

The midfielder helped Charlton clinch promotion back to the Championship in the last campaign, via the League One play-offs.

The Addicks are currently sitting in the relegation zone, two points from safety with only nine games remaining.

Having recovered from an ankle ligament injury during a 2-2 draw with Cardiff in November, Cullen will hope to play his part in his side’s battle for safety when the season resumes.

And Hogan’s loan spell with Birmingham originally ended in May, however the forward has penned a new deal which will keep him at St Andrews until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international signed on loan from parent club and Birmingham’s bitter city rivals, Aston Villa.

After joining in January, the 28 year old has impressed in Pep Clotet’s side, with seven goals in nine appearances, and also winning the Championship Player of the Month award in February.

Hogan made his senior debut for Ireland against Turkey back in 2018, however he is yet to find the back of the net in the green jersey.

Speaking to BoyleSports, he said: “In reference to my international career, if I’m allowed to swear I would swear, because it hasn’t gone well at all.

“It has been difficult without regular game-time, but I’m honest – when I’ve pulled on the green jersey I haven’t done anything. I understand that and I know that. I think that’s the thing that hurts me a lot every day at the moment, that I haven’t done anything to warrant playing for the national team."
