Ireland Coronavirus cases today: 45 more Covid cases announced with zero further deaths

A further 45 new coronavirus cases have been announced in Ireland with zero new deaths.

The Department of Health confirmed the latest figures in a release this evening.

This comes after two days of very high cases with 85 confirmed on Thursday and 38 on Friday.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said; “Over the last five days we have seen an average of 44 cases a day. This trend is clearly concerning and now is the time to ensure you and your families are making every effort to keep each other safe.

“Ensure gatherings are kept to a minimum and invite no more than 10 others into your home.

“Do not organise or attend house parties.

“Restaurants must enforce a limit of 50 people (including staff) on their premises at any one time.

“All workplaces should again review their procedures and protocols.

“Avoid congregated settings or environments where safety precautions are not in place.

“Wash your hands regularly, carry hand sanitizer and wear a face covering where appropriate.

“Ensure you isolate immediately if you experience any flu like symptoms.

“It is our individual action that will stop the spread.”

More to come on these latest figures on the Irish Mirror throughout the evening.

On Friday Dr Glynn revealed a new survey of GP’s has indicated that the vast majority of patients who had contacted them with Covid-like symptoms in the past week had not been self-isolating since the onset of their symptoms.

And this Bank Holiday weekend he is calling on the Irish public to adhere to the six key guidelines to avoid transmission of the virus.

He said: “The importance of isolating as soon as you have any flu like symptoms cannot be overstated.

"Without this individual action we simply will not break the chains of transmission and we will put many people at risk of infection.

“It is important that people know that there is no charge for GP or testing services relating to COVID-19. Please do not hesitate to contact your GP if you have any concerns.

“This weekend, the six key things people need to do are limit the size of your network & time you spend with them, keep your distance, meet up outside if possible, wash your hands, wear a face covering and download the COVID Tracker App.”
