Ireland Bank Holiday dates left this year amid Christmas Day 'move' with change incoming for 2023

Ireland’s next Bank Holiday is just days away with many set to enjoy a long break over Christmas.

But with Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year, a lot of people still have a full working week to wait.

The last Bank Holidays of 2023 fall on Christmas Day, December 25 and St Stephen’s Day, December 26.

However, as Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, the public holiday will be given on Tuesday, December 27.

There will be another 'move' for the New Year's Day Bank Holiday as it also takes place on a Sunday. That means the public holiday will instead be given on Monday, January 2.

2022 was unique for having a 'double' public holiday in March. The extra day off after St Patrick’s Day was introduced this year as a tribute to health workers and to remember those who died with Covid.

But it won't be a part of the 2023 public holiday calendar. Instead a new permanent Bank Holiday will fall on St Brigid's Day or the date of the nearest Monday to February 1 every year.
