Ireland AM star Karen Koster admits she worried she would struggle to be a mum

Ireland AM star Karen Koster admitted she worried she would struggle to become a mother.

The presenter said she was prepared for a long road to parenthood when she got married and there was always a worry.

Mum-of-three Karen added: “John and I thought it was going to be tougher road than it was and I never took it for granted.

“You get worried when you don’t get pregnant the first time you try and I looked at my age and John’s age and we didn’t want to hang around after we got married.

“We tried to have kids quickly and get all of the hard bits out of the way. But things are still hard, they are just hard in a different way.

“They are not necessarily waking up in the middle of the night, but they are cheeky and have an attitude.

“We say, ‘I’ll do this if you do that’ and I am like, ‘Hold on a second, you can’t negotiate with your mother’.”

Karen, who turns 40 next month, applauds women for speaking out about fertility issues and for helping those who need it as it is still such a difficult subject.

And she told RSVP LIVE her sons – Finn who is six and JJ who turned five last month – are a “formidable force” and they team up to try and get around her.

The Virgin Media One presenter, who is also mum to three-year-old Eve, said: “They are little divils, I am so tired I can’t remember what deal I have struck with them but they are able to hold me to it.”
