Ireland AM's Mark Cagney reunites with former co-star Maura Derrane on RTE's Today Show

Mark Cagney had a happy reunion with his former co-anchor Maura Derrane on RTE's Today with Maura and Daithi.

The pair previously presented breakfast show Ireland AM for two years during the mid-noughties.

However, Derrane decided to leave the popular slot in 2006, after marrying Waterford TV John Deasy, before moving onto shows in TG4 and RTE, RSVP Live reports.

This afternoon, Mark was a guest on the Today couch as he was interviewed by Maura and her "new TV husband" Daithi O'Se.

Speaking on Today with Maura and Daithi, Mark joked that Maura never started the show with a full face of make-up and she used to apply it as the show went on.

Confirming what happened, Maura told RSVP Magazine: "I did, I was a divil. I was very lastminute.com and I haven’t changed much.

"I loved the job and working on Ireland AM but I hated the hours and getting up in the middle of the night."

Mark was absent when Maura first started presenting Ireland AM back in 2004.

After finding her feet with Aidan Cooney, Maura was ready to partner with Mark and they became a formidable force on morning television.

Recalling joining the show, Maura told us: "Mark Cagney was out the week I started because he had just welcomed his youngest child Mary and I was presenting with Aidan Cooney for the first month.

"It was probably good that I didn’t go straight in with Mark.

"I had found my feet by the time he came back and I worked so well with him, I absolutely loved working with him."
