IRCTC to pay over Rs 4 lakh for Tejas Express delay

LUCKNOW: After heavy downpour caused a delay in the schedule of Tejas Express, a total of 2,135 affected passengers are set to get Rs 4.49 lakh as compensation. The passengers will receive compensation e-mail links from Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on their e-mail address registered with IRCTC for e-ticket booking.

IRCTC chief regional manager for Lucknow Ajit Sinha said, “Tejas Express, which left for the national capital on Saturday, got delayed by nearly two-and-a-half-hours following signal failure caused by heavy downpour. Further, the train was delayed on its return journey to Lucknow on Sunday.”

“Therefore, as per rules, Rs 250 each will be paid to 1,574 passengers who travelled to New Delhi but were delayed by more than two hours, while 561 passengers will be paid Rs 100 as their journey to Lucknow was delayed by one hour,” he said. The passengers will receive a link on their registered e-mail address on clicking which they will need to fill up an online form for refund.
