The murder of an Iraqi translator for the US television network CBS News, Anwar Abbas Lafta, brought the number of journalists and media workers killed in the country since the start of the invasion in March 2003 to 200. Of that number, 88% were Iraqis, most of whom worked for foreign news media. In addition, 84 journalists and media workers (64% of them Iraqis) have been kidnapped in Iraq the past four years. Only about half of them were freed, and 14 are still being held by their abductors. (Via Reporters without Borders)
