Iraq denied on Wednesday that President Barham Salih was planning to visit the Syrian capital Damascus.
A presidential spokesman said that plans for such a visit have not been made yet.
“We are in contact with all neighboring countries and no such visit has been planned to Damascus,” said Loqman al-Feely.
Iraqi diplomatic sources had claimed that Salih was due in Damascus within days.
Over the weekend, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir had made a surprise visit to Damascus where he met with regime leader Bashar Assad.
The hour-long trip was the first visit to Syria in eight years by an Arab leader.
