Iran warns of retaliation; Biden crafting response to soldiers' killing

U.S. President Biden visits Israel amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas

Iran's top military leader recently responded to threats from the United States, indicating that they will not go unanswered. This marks the first noteworthy reaction from Iran following anticipation of the move President Biden would make in response to Sunday's drone attack, which claimed the lives of three U.S. soldiers and left many others injured. While the White House remains silent on its specific course of action, President Biden has made it clear that he is not seeking to escalate tensions in the Middle East with another war.

President Biden asserted that Iran, in some way, bears responsibility for the attack, as they have allegedly supplied weaponry to Iranian-backed militia groups. However, the details of the U.S. response to this attack, which resulted in the loss of three American service members, are still being determined. President Biden mentioned that he has made up his mind on the matter, and his administration has been engaged in closed-door meetings to strategize the response.

According to spokesperson John Kirby, the U.S. response might involve multiple layers and formats, potentially spanning an extended period. While formulating the course of action, President Biden has emphasized his consideration for the families of the fallen soldiers. He personally spoke with each of the families to express his condolences and offer support. Notably, the U.S. Army Reserve posthumously promoted two of the deceased soldiers, Sergeant Kennedy Sanders and Specialist Breonna Moffitt, to the rank of sergeant. President Biden shared this news during his phone call with Kennedy Sanders' family, who expressed gratitude for the recognition.

President Biden intends to be present for the dignified transfer of the soldiers' remains, scheduled to take place in Dover, Delaware on Friday. The families, when asked by the president, expressed their desire to have him attend this somber occasion. The White House has confirmed that President Biden will be present as a show of support during this emotional moment.

The inclusion and acknowledgment of the families throughout this process is considered crucial by the White House. Their willingness to share their experiences publicly allows for a deeper understanding of the profound impact the tragic loss of the soldiers has had on their lives. President Biden empathizes with the families, having experienced similar grief himself, and recognizes the importance of honoring the fallen soldiers' memory.

As the world awaits the U.S. response to the drone attack, tensions remain high between the United States and Iran. The international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that avoids further escalation and fosters stability in the region.
