Iran vs USA lineups: Confirmed team news, starting XIs, injury latest for World Cup 2022 game today

USA boss Gregg Berhalter has again left Gio Reyna out of his starting line-up for tonight’s huge World Cup group decider against Iran.

Only a win will send the Unites States into the last-16 but an improved performance against England has grown their confidence of getting such a result.

But ex-USA striker Eric Wynalda’s claims that the coach has lied about Reyna’s fitness hit the camp after Borussia Dortmund talent, 20, was left on the bench for both of the USA’s World Cup games so far.

“There's been four years with you guys [the press], and I'll leave it to you guys to decide if I asked Gio to lie about it,” Berhalter hit back on Monday.

“That's just not who I am. That's not what I represent. So if you have to take my word or Eric's word, feel free. But I know what happened. That's not what I represent.

“And like every other person, Gio is a member of this team that we care deeply for and we know can help the team. It's a matter of when he can help us and how he can help us.”

Christian Pulisic keeps his place, alongside teammate Josh Sargent, who has put in underwhelming performances so far.

For Iran, goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand is fit to return from the concussion that prematurely ended his involvement against England in the opening game.

Sardar Azmoun was a big injury worry for their attack but is passed fit, while Alireza Jahanbakhsh is suspended.
