DUBAI, United Arab Emirates_ Iran submitted a letter to nations that are party to the nuclear deal, notifying them of a scale-back of its commitments, state television reported.
The letter to the ambassadors mentions the Supreme National Security Council's decision on the "suspension of the execution of some of the Islamic republic's commitments," according to a report posted on IRIB's website.
Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said last night the Islamic Republic won't withdraw from the nuclear accord and its response to the latest U.S. sanctions will be "within the agreement's framework," the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
The U.S. ratcheted up economic pressure early this month by letting waivers allowing eight governments to import Iranian oil expire, in its drive to cut Iran's oil exports to zero and force the country to stop support for groups such as Yemen's Houthis and Lebanon's Hezbollah, considered by the U.S. and others a terrorist organization. On Monday, it deployed an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf.
