Iran to completely close Strait of Hormuz if Trump executes threats

  • Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, threatening to destroy its power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully reopened.
  • The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway, through which a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas transits.
  • Iran's Revolutionary Guards declared the Strait would be “completely closed” if the U.S. president's threat to hit power plants is acted upon.
  • Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated the key shipping route remains open to all except those who violate Iranian territory.
  • The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned that regional energy infrastructure would be “irreversibly destroyed” if Iran's own infrastructure were attacked.
