Iran’s propaganda prevailed at Syria's Fifth Reconstruction Exhibition, though no agreements were signed between participants and the government.
The exhibition kicked off on Tuesday at the Damascus Fairgrounds and was concluded on Sept. 21, 2019.
It saw the participation of around 390 companies from 31 Arab and foreign states, including state media of Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, UAE, China, France, Italy, Russia, Hungary, Slovakia, Iran, Brazil, Indonesia, Spain, India, Romania, and Belgium.
Various products used in the domains of energy, health, education, agriculture, telecommunication, and water technology were displayed at the Expo, in addition to services related to real estate insurance and development, transportation, tourism and the systems of protection, security and IT.
The war – ongoing for eight years – has caused destruction to cities, regions and their infrastructure. The rebuilding process would cost around USD400 billion, estimated economists, while several western countries reject to take part in this if no political transition process occurs.
A total of 90 Iranian firms participated in the exhibition, however, few visitors would approach them.
A visitor told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that their participation was not random but carried a message: They insist to control the country. If they get a big part of the rebuilding process, they would bring more destruction instead.
The US Embassy in Syria posted on its Facebook page a statement discouraging firms or individuals of participating in any form of funding or transactions as it would be directed to the benefit of the regime.
Earlier, the embassy posed similar warning during the organization of Damascus International Fair, end of August and at the beginning of September.
