Iran says no talks are planned with US after Trump’s meeting declaration

  • Iran has stated that no meeting is scheduled with the U.S. negotiating team in Doha this week despite both sides sending delegations.
  • President Donald Trump said earlier Monday, “Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha!” His administration dispatched Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to lead the U.S. team.
  • Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said Tehran was sending a technical delegation, stating, “We will not have any negotiation meetings at any level with the American side in the coming days.”
  • The lack of scheduled talks underscores the precariousness of the June 17 accord, which aimed to pause a conflict that has disrupted global oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. The interim ceasefire, intended to lead to a permanent truce and discussions on Iran's nuclear programmes, has been tested by recent missile fire and mutual accusations of violations.
