Iran has registered a record high 3,902 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, with the total number of identified cases in the worst-hit country in the Middle East rising to 475,674, state TV reported on Monday.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari told the television station that 235 patients had died in the past 24 hours, equaling a daily death toll high set on July 28.

Lari said a total of 475,674 Iranians have been confirmed infected with the COVID-19, some 392,293 of whom have been recovered or discharged from hospitals.

Up to 4,167 patients are in critical conditions and are being treated in intensive care units, the spokeswoman added, state news agency IRNA reported.

For his part, Tehran’s Governor General Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpey revealed plans to make mask-wearing mandatory outside homes starting next week.

Bandpey also said he has submitted recommendations to the Interior Ministry over remote working.
