Iran informed Turkey last week, before its strike on Israel, of “the options” for retaliation, according to a Turkish diplomatic source. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan then informed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken about Iran's potential actions.

The Turkish source stated that the developments were not unexpected as Iran had given prior notice of its options. Discussions about possible developments took place during the conversation between Fidan and Blinken. The American side, through Turkey, advised Iran to keep its response within certain boundaries.

In response, Iran indicated that its retaliation would be in response to the attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus and would not escalate further. Turkish diplomatic sources revealed that Fidan communicated with the Iranian foreign minister to express Turkey's desire to prevent further escalation in the region.

Fidan also had a conversation with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, reiterating the importance of de-escalation in the current situation.
