Iran: In-depth tour takes in Tehran, Yazd, Shiraz and Kashan

July 08--The changing faces of Iran are the focus of an 11-day tour with the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and its executive director, former journalist Terry McCarthy.

The in-depth itinerary offers opportunities to meet in Tehran with citizens, including local artists and members of a wildlife conservation organization. Other highlights in the capital city include visits to the old (the Archaeological Museum) and the new (the Aaran Gallery, which features contemporary Iranian artworks), as well as a viewing of the Iranian crown jewels and Peacock Throne.

Other destinations include Yazd, to learn about the Zoroastrian religion and ancient desert architecture; the archaeological site of Persepolis in Shiraz; Isfahan, said to be the most beautiful of all Iranian cities; and the oasis town of Kashan and its Fin Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dates: Oct. 15-28

Price: $5,100 per person, double occupancy; $910 single supplement. Includes all accommodations and meals, flight from Tehran to Yazd, all sightseeing and entrance fees, local guides and gratuities. Visa fees and international airfare not included.
