US President Donald Trump says US in negotiations with Iran 'right now' to end war

We're ending our live coverage now of day 25 of the war in Iran, a 24-hour period which ended with the surprise announcement from US President Donald Trump that negotiations with Iran to end the fighting were underway "right now," adding Tehran wants to make a deal "so badly."

"We're in negotiations right now," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, saying that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner were also involved.

That comes a day after Trump had said his administration had been negotiating with Iran "for a long time" and believed a deal was close.

Those claims however were swiftly contradicted by Tehran, with both the foreign office and the parliament speaker denying any such negotiations had ever taken place.

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf dismissed the reports as fake news to "manipulate the financial and oil markets."
