- Iran reportedly closed all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the United States Tuesday after President Donald Trump’s threats reached a new level.
- Trump warned “a whole civilization will die tonight” in a Truth Social post Tuesday morning. He has been threatening to destroy every bridge and power plant in Iran if it doesn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. ET.
- With only hours left before the deadline, a senior Iranian source told Reuters that Tehran was still refusing to reopen the strait without U.S. concessions.
- Pakistan, the main go-between for Iran and the U.S., was continuing to relay messages but Washington had not softened its stance, the source said. Tehran threatened to plunge Gulf states into darkness if the U.S. hits Iran's power grid.
- There were mixed signals over whether negotiations were continuing Tuesday. The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times cited Middle Eastern and Iranian sources saying they had broken down and the state-run Tehran Times reported they were ongoing.
