Ipswich Town weighing up move for former Ireland defender Stephen Ward

Ipswich Town are weighing up a move for former Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Ward.

Ward, 34, is training with the League One Tractor Boys this week but has been offered no guarantees on a contract.

“Stephen is with us for a little while,” said Lee O’Neill, Ipswich’s general manager of football operations.

“He’s training with us and will have a look at the club and we will have a look at him. It’s no more than that at this stage.”

Ward is a free agent having left Stoke City at the end of the Championship season after one-campaign with the Potters.

Capped 50 times for Ireland, he joined from Burnley last summer but struggled with a back injury and featured just 17 times this season.
