Ipswich Town interested in Bristol City attacker wanted by Hull City but Huddersfield Town still lead race

Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for Bristol City attacker Sammie Szmodics.

Szmodics joined the Robins from League Two Colchester United in the summer but has found first-team football hard to come by, having made just four appearances so far this season.

The Robins plan on sending the 24-year-old out on loan in January in order to maximise his football as they chase a play-off spot, and Bristol Live has previously reported that Championship rivals Huddersfield Town and Hull City are both interested in taking him.

Whilst Hull manager Grant McCann has been non-commital over his side's interest in the player, the Tigers were one of the clubs the Robins beat to his signature in the summer.

However, the East Anglian Daily Times have now reported that League One Ipswich Town have shown an interest in Szmodics.

The Tractor Boys are said to have tentatively made their interest known for the versatile attacker, with a move to Portman Road giving the player a chance to return closer to his Essex roots.

Ipswich made a flying start to the season following their relegation last year but have stuttered in the last month, dropping to third in the table and out of the automatic promotion places.

However, Bristol Live understands that Huddersfield are still the leading contenders for Szmodics, should the Robins opt to send him out on loan in January.
