Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert hits out at Sunderland for sacking Jack Ross

Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has hit out at League One rivals Sunderland for sacking Jack Ross yesterday.

The Black Cats are on the lookout for a new manager after they sacked Ross on Tuesday afternoon after 17 months at the club.

The former St Mirren boss guided them to two Wembley finals but hiis failure to win promotion from League One proved costly.

With the Black Cats eight points adrift of league leaders Ipswich, owner Stewart Donald decided to terminate his contract.

Lambert's side are unbeaten so far this season and were tipped to be in the promotion fight alongside Sunderland at the start of the season.

And speaking to BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound, the former Scotland international believes his compatriot did not get enough time to succeed at Sunderland.

“I don’t think he [Ross] has had long enough at all - he’s started to rebuild a club which was going down and down.

“It’s probably unfair I think.

“I think people look at the division and what happened last year, where Sunderland are in stature as a club, and think they’ve got a divine right to be up there.

“I’m never really surprised by football because of the way the game is - people lose jobs even when things are going well.”
