Plumes of smoke filled the skies of Ipswich this morning as emergency services battled to tackle a waterside blaze.
At least three fire crews rushed to the scene near the town’s marina after the fire broke out at a gravel washing plant at around 11am.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said “potentially hazardous cylinders” were removed from the industrial site and electricity to the building was cut while crews fought the fire.
Footage on social media showed dramatic streams of black smoke billowing across the blue sky.
An SFRS spokesperson confirmed that the main blaze had been extinguished, but firefighters remained at the scene to check for “additional hot spots”.
It is not yet known the cause of the fire or whether there have been any injuries.
