Gujarat: IPS officer, LCB PI feted for investigation

RAJKOT: Nitesh Pandey, IPS officer of 2017 batch, presently serving as Devbhumi Dwarka superintendent of police (SP) was among several Gujarat police officials who were felicitated for their ‘excellence in investigation’ by union home minister Amit Shah.

Pandey was conferred the medal for his probe in cracking Jamnagar-based gangster Jayesh Patel’s gang under GujCTOC by gathering scientific and forensic evidence, call recordings, documentary proof and attaching several properties of the gang members. Pandey was the assistant superintendent of police then. Under Pandey’s guidance, police had filed a chargesheet of 5,000 pages against the gang’s organized crime in the court. Pandey’s lead also helped in the arrest of Patel in London and the extradition process is underway.

R K Karamta, in-charge police inspector of Amreli local crime branch (LCB) was conferred the award for busting a robbers gang that had tied a couple to their bed in a farm in Babra and looted cash and valuables of Rs 1.52 lakh.

This gang members did not use mobile phones but using technical surveillance, Karamta arrested the accused who were involved in six robberies including loot with murder. He also cracked a robbery and murder case of Savarkundla rural police station in which a 70-year-old woman was murdered and looted.

Ashraf Khan Baloch of Ahmedabad crime branch also bagged the medal for solving a kidnapping case.
