IPL betting: Rs 26 lakh seized, prime accused on the run

Guwahati: Intensifying its investigation against the illegal Indian Premier League (IPL) betting, the crime branch of Assam police on Monday seized Rs 26.42 lakh from the residence of the prime accused in the case.

However, the prime accused – Manoj Jain and Ashok Jain — are on the run.

Crime branch assistant commissioner of police Numal Mahato said a raid was conducted on the basis of the statements of the arrested at the residence of the prime accused in the Athgaon area of the city.

“However, according to our information, both Ashok and Manoj have fled the state.An iInvestigation is under way. They will be netted soon,” he added.

The police also seized four mobile handsets and a few objectionable items from the residence of the Jains during the raid.

On October 12, the crime branch sleuths arrested three gamblers, who were allegedly involved in illegal IPL betting. They were identified as Dipesh Bajoria, Raunak Bajoria and Rajesh Jain.
