BHOPAL: Crime branch on Tuesday claimed to have busted two online betting rackets being run in the city in which bookies were placing bets on IPL cricket matches through online websites. As many as three bookies who were allegedly accepting and placing bets on the IPL matches, were arrested from Gautam Nagar, police said.
Police said they have seized a car along with laptop, four mobile phones and cash Rs 21,000. However, later another team of crime branch claimed they have arrested two more bookies while their third accomplice managed to run away from the spot. As many as two mobile phones and cash of Rs 3,000 was seized from their possession, police said.
DCP (crime branch) Amit Kumar said that police had received information about the accused allegedly running an online betting racket on IPL matches while moving in their car across the city. Acting on information, the crime branch team nabbed them and seized Rs 1,80,000, four mobile phones, a laptop and pen drive along with the car from them. They had taken ID to place bets online on IPL matches through two online websites. Police said they are trying to trace the bookies.
