Earlier, it was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who spent the most for a single player in the opening exchanges for marquee players to take home Shreyas Iyer.

Before that, the Punjab franchise shelled out Rs 8.25 crore for the left-handed Dhawan. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) showed interest in the batsman initially, bidding alongside Delhi Capitals. But Punjab joined the battle and eventually clinched the bid. Dhawan's base price was Rs 2 crore.

In the fierce bidding war for Shreyas, it was KKR who got him for Rs 12.25 crore. He could go on to lead the side, as KKR are looking for a captain as well. Shreyas led Delhi Capitals and could be KKR's best bet as skipper.

The other young Indian player who took home crores was fast bowler Harshal Patel, having made heads turn during the last edition of the league.

As the bids of Harshal travelled from one franchise table to the other in the auditorium, it looked like he will outscore Shreyas on the chart of money-earners.
