IPL Auction 2022: Delhi Capitals move on from tested core to experienced one

NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals have moved on from their trusted core which revived them as one of the strongest forces in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the last three seasons.

Their marquee players Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Shimron Hetmyer and Avesh Khan have all got lavish deals from other franchises. Marcus Stoinis was already drafted in by Lucknow Super Giants.

However, the franchise has opted for more seasoned proven players to get their combinations.

David Warner will be back where his IPL journey had started in 2009. Warner and Mitchell Marsh were bought for Rs 6.25 crore and Rs 6.5 crore respectively, which is being deemed as a steal for the franchise. Their most expensive buy has been Shardul Thakur for Rs 10.75 crore for his all-round abilities.

The franchise didn’t go after unheralded uncapped players. The idea was to form a strong core with seasoned players. They have bartered their core, which was groomed over five years, for an experienced one

Kuldeep Yadav found a bid of Rs 2 crore while Kamlesh Nagarkoti was bought for Rs 1.1 crore. Bangladesh’s spearhead Mustafizur Rahman will make up the pace attack for Capitals. KS Bharat will be captain Rishabh Pant’s backup.
