IPL 2024: Bobat backs underperforming Maxwell

BENGALURU: Glenn Maxwell has been regularly smashing bowlers at the nets this season, like he has done in the past. However, the RCB batter has failed to replicate that on match days. With three ducks, and 32 runs in six matches, it has been a poor season for Australian, who struck 400 runs last season. However, Mo Bobat, RCB director of cricket, backed Maxwell to find form in the upcoming games.

"Firstly, he (Maxwell) is disappointed. He obviously has high standards, and he has had a very impressive 12 to 24 months. He is an important part of our batting line-up. So up until now, we are trying to support him as best we can and try and help him find his best form," said Bobat.

Bobat also said that Maxwell, who suffered a thumb injury in the last game, has recovered and is fit for Monday's game against Sunrisers Hyderabad here. "Maxi has had a couple of scans, and he's okay at the minute. No injury concerns. He's going to practice today (Sunday) and get more of a feel," added Bobat.

Only Virat Kohli has found his range in the tournament for RCB with 319 runs, and Bobat is also satisfied with his strike rate of 141 in the season. "He's also offering a decent strike rate. I'm not spending too much time worrying about Virat's batting, he's doing well."

But Bobat underlined the importance of contribution from other batters. "Some of our high-profile players haven't performed in the way they want to. That sort of thing is linked to confidence, people at the top of their game can take slightly more risks. Our guys haven't felt like that. We saw good signs in last game where batters other than Virat contributed. We can build from there," added Bobat.
