IPL 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs in low-scoring match

LUCKNOW: Royal Challengers Bangalore eked out an 18-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants in a low-scoring match at Ekana Stadium on Monday.

It was not a favourable day for LSG as their skipper KL Rahul limped out of the field in the second over of the match after he pulled his right thigh muscle.

LSG bowlers put up a fine display to restrict RCB to a low score of 126/9. Even as the opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli had a 62-run partnership, RCB failed to gain momentum as spinners Ravi Bishnoi (2/21) and Amit Mishra (2/21) bowled superbly to keep the batters under check.

Kohli hit three boundaries in his 31-run innings off 30 balls before being stumped by Nicholas Pooran on Bishnoi's delivery. Soon after, Anuj Rawat was also caught by Kyle Mayers on Krishnappa Gowtham's ball. Glenn Maxwell was also dismissed (LBW) without much ado. Suyash Prabhudesai was also caught by Gowtham off Amit Mishra's delivery, as RCB tottered at 90 for four in 14.3 overs.

The match had to be halted for 26 minutes in the 16th over due to light but steady showers. While du Plessis continued to bat but struggled to find the boundary, and was removed by Mishra when he was caught by Pandya in the 17th over. Dinesh Karthik made 16 off 11 deliveries. In the fag end of the innings, Naveen-ul-Haq claimed two successive wickets.

Chasing the target, LSG had a nightmarish start as they lost the first three wickets for just 21 runs in 4.1 overs. Kyle Mayers and Ayush Badoni opened the innings but could not give their team a great start.
