IPL 2023: 11 players who made the maximum impact

Every IPL throws up new stars. We try to go beyond the numbers and look at the impact that players have made...

Shubman Gill: Do we need to discuss his inclusion? With the Orange Cap on his head, three centuries and outstanding batting, the GT opener has absolutely lit up the IPL. What has stood out has been ability to deliver under pressure and the ease with which he kept hitting those sixes.

Matches: 16, Runs: 851, Strike Rate: 156.43

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Easily the breakout player of this IPL. The Rajasthan Royals left-hander's approach was a breath of fresh air. What stood out was his ability to mix the silken shots with the powerful ones.

M: 14, Runs: 625, SR: 163.61

Faf Du Plessis (captain): The South African is getting better with age and even held the Orange Cap for a while this season. Had RCB made the last-four, it would have been a close contest between him and Gill. Faf opened for RCB, but he is as good at No. 3. His ability to generate power as well as play the anchor's role when required made him a standout player. It's also difficult to see anyone beyond him as captain.

M: 14, Runs: 730, SR: 153.68

Suryakumar Yadav: Virat Kohli has scored more runs than him but Surya was absolutely brilliant in the middle-order for Mumbai Indians. His performances were instrumental in MI making a turnaround and finishing third in the competition.

M: 16, Runs: 605, SR: 181.13

IPL 2023: Impact players XI

Nicholas Pooran (wicketkeeper): This is a selection that is going to raise eyebrows, but there haven't been enough good performances by wicketkeeper batters in this IPL. Pooran played some match-winning knocks for Lucknow Super Giants and it was his ability to make an impact that keeps him ahead of Ishan Kishan. The fact that MS Dhoni hardly batted rules him out of contention.

M: 15, Runs: 358, SR: 172.94

Rinku Singh: The KKR left-hander's five sixes in five balls against Gujarat Titans was one of the highlights of this year's IPL. Rinku has shown the ability to keep his calm under pressure and suddenly bring out the big shot when required. Another player who can become an integral part of the Indian T20 set-up in the days to come.

M: 14, Runs: 474, SR: 149.52

Rashid Khan: Since he started playing in the IPL, there has hardly been a year when he hasn't been a part of the best XI. The Gujarat Titans leggie got wickets, stopped runs in the middle overs and in addition to that, showed his ability with the bat as well with unorthodox hitting. In an age of 'Impact' subs, he is probably the only allrounder who stood out.

M: 16, Wkts: 27, Economy Rate: 7.93

Mohammed Shami: Another veteran who is getting better with age. He got wickets in the Powerplay and delivered in the death overs as well. He has been a captain's dream with and it is impossible to look beyond him as the spearhead.

M: 16, Wkts: 28, ER: 7.98

Mohammed Siraj: Sometimes when a team bows out early, performances don't get noticed. Siraj may have got lesser wickets than somebody like a Tushar Deshpande, but it's his economy rate that makes him a better bowler. And Siraj has developed into a good death bowler as well.

M: 14, Wkts: 19, ER: 7.5

Yuzvendra Chahal: Easily the best Indian spinner of this IPL. He is probably the only spinner other than Rashid who can bowl at the death. His cunning variations, big heart and ability to take wickets once again proved pivotal for Rajasthan Royals.

M: 14, Wkts: 21, ER: 8.17

Matheesha Pathirana: The new Lasith Malinga is here. He joined the CSK team late and played only 11 games (before the final), but the impact that he made was immense. In virtually every game, Dhoni brought him on after the first 10 overs and the Lankan slinger stood out with his yorkers and intelligent change of pace.

M: 11, Wkts: 17, ER: 7.72

Impact Subs: Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Madhwal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Piyush Chawla
