Apple's new iPhone Xs Max is the most expensive phone it has ever made.
The handset is a record-breaker in a number of ways: it is the biggest screen ever to be found inside of an Apple phone, and includes its most advanced features.
It also costs more than any iPhone ever sold before, comfortably breaching the $999 mark that was caused such a fuss around the iPhone X last year.
The smaller version of the phone – the Xs – is the same size as the X and also the same price. It starts at $999 or the same in pounds, and increases with the extra storage options.
But the XS Max adds another $100 on top of that price, taking it up to $1099. That makes it the first iPhone to cost more than $1,000 at its base storage level, and easily the most expensive ever sold.
The additional storage options also make it have the highest top price of any phone. Apple now sells the iPhone in storage options going all the way up to 512GB – that version of the handset costs $1,499.
At the same event, Apple also revealed the iPhone Xr. That was intended as the cheaper version of the handset but is actually comparable with the already expensive iPhone 8 Plus from last year, pushing the average price of Apple's new iPhone line over the record cost, too.
Both the Xs and the Xs Max will be available for pre-order from Friday, and will start shipping a week later.
The Xr won't arrive until October.
