iPhone trick lets you customise your iOS app icons without using the Shortcuts app

Since the iOS 14 update was rolled out last month, many keen iPhone users have rushed to customise their app icons.

From hilarious hand-drawn icons to stunning rainbow symbols, a range of creative layouts have been shown off on social media.

Unfortunately, to update your iOS app icons, you’ll have to route through Apple’s Shortcuts app every time you want to open an app, which is pretty irritating.

However, a clever workaround has been launched that allows you to customise your app icons without using the Shortcuts app.

Launch Centre Pro uses Apple’s own Profiles system to install custom ‘web clip’ profiles that directly link to your selected apps.

9to5 Mac explained: “When you create a new Shortcut with a custom icon to open an app, iOS first opens the Shortcuts app and then redirects to the chosen app.

“Launch Center Pro uses configuration profiles to add custom icons to the iOS home screen without ever running the Shortcuts app, so the process becomes easier and more intuitive.

“Additionally, the app introduces a new Icon Composer where users will find multiple options to create unique icons with different colors, glyphs, shapes, and badges.

“All you have to do is create a new icon, set an app for that icon, and you’re ready to go. Once you’re done, Launch Center Pro generates a configuration profile with shortcuts to all the apps you’ve chosen, each one with custom icons.”

Launch Centre Pro is free on the App Store, however, there’s a catch.

The feature that enables custom icon shortcuts requires a subscription, which is available as an in-app purchase.
