iPhone trick lets you automatically block spam calls - here's how to activate it

We’ve all been there - you receive a phone call from an unknown number, only to be greeted with the infuriating ‘We hear you’ve been in an accident’ message when you answer.

But the days of falling for spam phone calls could be a thing of the past, thanks to a new iPhone feature.

The feature, called Silence Unknown Callers, is available in iOS 13 , and lets you avoid getting calls from people you don't know.

Once the feature is activated, calls from unknown numbers are silenced and sent to your voicemail, and appear in your recent calls list.

The feature is called Silence Unknown Callers (file photo) (Apple)

Apple explained: “Incoming calls will come through from people that are saved in your contacts list, recent calls list, and from Siri Suggestions to let you know who’s calling based on phone numbers included in your emails or text messages.”

If you place an emergency call, the Silence Unknown Callers feature is temporarily disabled for the next 24 to make sure your iPhone can be reached.

Best of all, it takes just seconds to set up - here are the basic instructions:
