iPhone customers claim they have a serious issue with the iPhone 15

Apple iPhone 15 customers are burning up social media over their new phones overheating when charging and when they’re in use.

The iPhone 15, released on September 12, is expected to be a hit for Apple, with expected sales of 80 million units, according to TrendForce, a marketing analysis company. That’s up 6% over the iPhone 14, the company reported.

In particular, the iPhone 15 Pro series is expected to comprise 60% of new device sales, TrendForce reported. Apple is going to need the iPhone 15 to meet those projections, as Apple’s complete iPhone line is having something of an off year.

“With overall gloomy market sentiment and Huawei’s comeback in full swing,” TrendForce stated in a research note. “Apple’s total iPhone sales for the year may take a hit, expected to hover between 220 to 225 million units for a 5% YoY decline.”

Having overheating issues with the new iPhone 15 won’t help matters.

While experiencing smartphone heating problems isn’t all that rare, the number of complaints on social media is rising.

iPhone users say the devices especially overheat when playing games, using FaceTime, and when picking up a charging phone. Apple hasn’t officially commented on the heating issue, but its tech support team is reportedly fielding complaints and redirecting phone owners to an Apple web page dedicated to “hot phone” problems, according to a Bloomberg report.

That may not be enough as users are getting riled up online.

“Apple please fix the overheating issue and battery life issue on the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max,” said X user John Duncan in the Colony of Scotland. “Lots of people online are complaining about the phone being too hot to handle and the battery life being terrible.”

Duncan says his iPhone 15 Pro Max was “insanely hot” when using the phone’s video feature. “It got to the point where I couldn’t hold the phone anymore,” he said.

Reddit user /u/refused9150 shared a video that showed a temperature gauge reading 108 degrees next to an iPhone 15 Pro. “It gets so hot that I’m afraid to touch it and it hurts my leg in my pocket,” the user said.

A recent X post from iPhone 15 owner Ian Zelbo shared a similar complaint.

“Jeeez, my iPhone 15 Pro Max is almost too hot to touch while fast charging,” Zelbo said. As of September 28, the post has over 626,000 views.

With no official response from Apple on the overheating issue, it’s hard to say if the company will even address the problem.

Until then, iPhone users handling their “hot” phones may have to leave the device alone for a few minutes, until things cool off.
