iPhone 5 users need to update their smartphone now or it will stop working, Apple warns

While the iPhone 5 was launched by Apple over seven years ago, the smartphone remains a popular option for many users.

But if you use the iPhone 5, you need to update it this week, or you’ll lose a serious amount of functionality.

Apple has advised that iPhone 5 users should update to iOS 10.3.4, or they’ll risk losing the ability to send and receive emails, access to the App Store and even access to iCloud services.

On its support site , Apple explained: “Starting just before 12:00 am UTC on November 3, 2019, iPhone 5 will require an iOS update to maintain accurate GPS location and to continue to use functions that rely on correct date and time including App Store, iCloud, email, and web browsing.

“This is due to the GPS time rollover issue that began affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers on April 6, 2019.

“Affected Apple devices are not impacted until just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019.”
